| THE MAN |
The largest and most central burnable
art structure at Kiwiburn is The Man, a 4 meter high
wooden effigy which will be burned on the Sunday night
after the Temple burn. "The Man" is the core
of the Burning Man festival, which itself has roots
in an ancient pagan ritual, 1000's of years old. Read
more about the history of the early years of Burning
Man here. Kiwiburn as New Zealand's Burning Man Regional
aims to inspire a similar bringing together of the community
as in the early days of Burning Man: "Today
a colony and soon, an international community of like-minded
friends — all drawn by this towering effigy —
a gateway to a primal ecstasy of communion, celebration
and consummation." |
| THE TEMPLE |
The Temple is a Burning Man tradition.
Each year, a non-denominational temple is built where
anybody can go to meditate, pray, perform ritual or
just contemplate quietly. Many people choose to write
messages to loved ones, or notes of things they would
like to let go from their past, or simply thoughts they
would like to put out to the universe and leave them
in the temple.
As the festival progresses and more people leave their
messages of hope, loss and life, an energy builds up
in the Temple, culminating in the burning on the last
night, a giant cathartic release of emotion.
The Temple will burn on the Sunday night after sunset. |
| FERNZ |
Originally made for Burning Man 07 - a fern tree
made of recycled metal... the leaves are old printing
plates and the stem is old exhaust pipes... it's covered
in playa dust and battered from dust storms, but lives
to be erected for another day.... will be lit by green
EL wire at night |
| THE
WENDY HOUSE |
A burner twist on the traditional Kiwi Wendy House.
Come in and play, open all hours. |
| PIRATE
SHIP (yet to be named) |
Large raft with a small outboard for motivational
power, in the shape of a pirate ship to be on the lake
during the day and beached and secured at night. The
Pirate Ship will be Kiwiburn's (and possibly the whole
burner world's - since I think we have the only (full)
lake) - first floating Art Boat. It will be not unlike
an Art Car in concept, only on water. Pirates will be
able to ride the ship, buckling swashes and swashing
buckles as the feeling takes them. Arrrr! |
| HALOs |
Members of HALO will create lighting for Kiwiburn
by making and distributing lamps each evening, wherever
they see fit. Easily portable, single unit - no wires
to carry power - so must have battery or solar panel.
Must be waterproof and robust enough to work for 3 days/nights
and provide Helpful Autonomous Lighting around the paths
and lanes. (batteries could be removed charged during
the day then replaced at night - if solar isnt grunty
enuff). Old lamps/Light shades/interesting glowable
stuff (plastic balls, buckets, interesting/coloured
glass jars etc... all are possible at this stage). Cheap
solar garden lights or something similar - LEDs, 12v.
THE CULT: 4-5 of us so far, we could get a lamplighters-type
Cult of HALO Arrangers (CHALOA) together... As part
of the cult of the Arrangers will randomly let creativity
loose and Arrange HALOs as part of ancient rituals involving
fruit/canned meat/kazoos. This will be done by commited
cult members while wearing serious ceremonial robes
and unserious funny hats. |
| CINCOPHORIA |
Cincophoria is an interactive art stucture that
will celebrate the first 5 years of Kiwiburn, and the
global regional network of Burningman. It will be a
circular wooden art structure that will be constructed
according to the Combust in Unity theme. Inside the
structure people will be able to view images and memorabilia
from all four of the previous Kiwiburns, along with
images and information on the vast regional network.
The structure will hopefully be lit up at night. This
artist would like help with nighttime lighting resources.
If you have something, please bring it. |
| CONFESSIONAL
BOOTH |
The Kiwiburn Confessional Booth is part of the
documentary feature film/art project being made at Kiwiburn
08 by Bunny, Paul and others. There will be an autonomous
booth with a video camera for people to rant at in privacy
about the awesomeness of life, the burn, and everything
when sufficiently inspired. It is intended as a place
for people to express their revelations, inspirations,
and generally have a blast. It is a window to broadcast
to the world. Use it how you like; radically self-express
away. :) The booth will be open erratically throughout
the burn, as much as possible. Please supervise children
(including adult ones) to avoid breaking anything. |
| THE FIRE LABYRINTH |
A 9 metre diameter fire labyrinth. It can be danced/walked/stumbled through, or stood in. The path of a labyrinth is a simple one - to the centre, and out again. At the fire labyrinth, you may walk, dance, or meander along the path, before continuing your journey through life - safe travels! Note: This artist would greatly appreciate help sourcing sawdust, help with digging, or donations of sawdust/kerosene/elbow grease. |
